Centered around one of the best, local ski areas in Tahoe, Homewood is also one of the nicest spots to be during any time of year. This is classic Tahoe – old cabins, a mix of shady and sunny neighborhoods, two marinas, a great deli (Obexer’s, recently remodeled), a boutique hotel, and lots of public lake access. There are plans for a major development of Homewood ski area but with the state of the economy nothing has been done yet, per se. The West Shore Café has changed hands again and is now offering a better-priced menu and the same incredible outdoor bar area with a pier out front those of us who prefer to arrive by boat.

In Homewood you’ll see the little old barns that have comprised the Obexer’s family business for eons. This is a public, paid boat launch as is the one at Homewood Marina located right across from the ski area. The resort has plans to expand so the face and feel of Homewood will change considerably at some point. The common belief is that home values could increase when that happens.

In real estate, the Homewood areas sees just about everything. Occasionally there’s a very low sale ($300,000’s), there is a fair amount of new construction, and the lakefronts are some of the most sought-after on the fabled West Shore. There is generally good, deep water off the shoreline and the classic summertime feel of Homewood has been drawn vacationers and locals alike for a hundred years.
